Mars has fascinated humans for years. The Red Planet as it is also referred provides lots of interest and Splendor. NASA developed a robot to explore Mars. The Curiosity Rover is its name it has been studying the planet’s climate and geology extremely closely for the last few years. Here is a look at some of the recent Mars discoveries.
1. Evidence of Liquid Water on Mars
For years scientist has known that they were water on Mars. However, it only existed in the form of ice. Fortunately, the present research has shown the that it is very likely that liquid water is on the planet’s surface.
2. Martian Sand Dunes Very Real
Curiosity, recently was able to present the first detailed look at the Martian sand dunes. The robot was able to recover detailed pictures of the dunes. They were gather well taking a close observation of the Bagnold Dunes.
3. Rats on Mars
Now rats are not a strange phenomenon. You may have encounter quite a few so far in your life time. But there seems to be rats or at least a rat on Mars. One amateur astronaut claims to have seen a rat on mars. They has also been the discovery of what looks like rat remains. However, many people are of the view that NASA must be conducting secret experiments. Always the conspiracy!
4. Evidence of a Large water basin
Curiosity discovered that there is evidence that a water basin once existed on Mars. This amplifies the chance that there could possible that they could be life on Mars. Curiosity also discovered the remnants that indicate a lake and stream once existed in this particular region.
5. Curiosity Rover discovers radiation
Well if there is life on Mars they must be able to withstand high levels of radiation. Curiosity has found very deadly levels of radiation on Mars. These levels greatly go beyond the NASAS’ career limit for their astronauts. This information comes to be very valuable. With it means the advancement in spaceships and spacesuits.
6. Curiosity Takes a Selfie
Well it seems like not only the humans love to take selfies. The Rover took outstanding pictures of itself on Mars. The robot was able to get images of itself prior to a journey up a mountain on the Red Planet. Many images were taken using the NASA’s Mars Hand Lens Imager. This aids in the production of an awesome selfie of the rover.
7. A lack of methane
In 2013, NASA reported that there was not the slightest evidence to indicate methane in the Red Planet’s atmosphere. This greatly lessen the chances that there could be life on the Red Planet. Scientist have been looking for this substance primarily because it is made by living organisms. Thus if it were present this could be an indicator of human life. However, the search for methane goes on.
8. The Curiosity robot also found Auroras
The latest news on Mars is that Scientist have discovered that the solar wind on mars plus the lack of a magnetic field that produces auroras. For those of you who did not know. Aurora is a splendid display of light created by the clashing of electrical particles. These lights would appeared to be red, green or blue to humans. Unfortunately, NASA is unable to determine the color of the auroras because the robot lacks the needed technology. In addition, the auroras presents the fact that the Red Planet is surround by solar winds. This would then mean that solar activity played a major role in the planet’s loss of atmosphere.
9. The Martian drilling site Buckskin has high levels of Silica
The Buckskin drilling site on Mars has been found to contain large levels of hydrogen and silica. This was noted by Curiosity well traveling to a site that has two different sedimentary bedrock connected to each other. This connection can provide clues about what caused the changes in the environment. What conditions caused the formation of each different type of rock.
10. Mars has a damaged Moon
Curiosity’s Mars expeditions have shown that the planet has two moons. The both resemble an asteroid. They are called Phobos and Deimos. The scientists are of the view that in the next 30 million years or so the moon Phobos will collide into Mars. The Red Planet produces some serious gravity that is believed to draw the moon in. Mars continues to be a marvel. It provides so much fascination probably one day we may be living there.
